sam. productions have partnered with White Ribbon Australia to bring Dolores to regional NSW
audiences in March 2019.
sam. productions is an independent production company owned by two sisters; Millie and
Edwina Samuels who are country girls born and bred in Dubbo, NSW.
Dolores is a 45 minute, one act play written by Edward Allan Baker. It is a portrait of two
sisters, Sandra and Dolores, who are caught in repeating patterns of domestic abuse
and dealing with it in very different ways. The play addresses the difficulties women
experience in speaking out as well as the multitude of barriers women face trying to
access support. The writer Baker explores these hard themes but in no way does he
forget to entertain.
sam.productions announced the regional tour after a successful sold out season in
Sydney in 2018.
Sydney’s acclaimed Audrey Journal said: “Having Sandra and Dolores played by sibling
actors is a rare treat and Edwina and Millie Samuels are very good in their roles,
delivering incredibly detailed performances”
The Samuels sisters hope to use the play as a platform to encourage conversation
about Domestic Violence and raise awareness of the support available in Australia and
local communities. White Ribbon ambassadors will be attending as well as staff from
local women’s and family services. Where possible, tea and nibbles will be provided
following the show. As a way to acknowledge the important work done to stop violence
against women nationally and locally, the girls will be donating 10% of ticket sales to
White Ribbon and collecting donations for local services.
Audiences may learn that their unique set of skills can help to effect change in their
community whether they work in schools, local businesses, health services or at a
